So I was turned on to a sale at Joann's regarding the Big Twist Value Yarn. It was a deal too good to pass up and I thought why not write down my honest opinion of the yarn. It can be a struggle to find quality yarn at a great price point. I thought some yarn reviews would help others when deciding what is right for them. So here is my first review.
Big Twist Value Yarn Details
Joann's website describes the yarn as follows: "Big Twist Value Yarn is a yarn for big projects that just need to be made. Durable, functional, and affordable, this yarn is perfect for afghans, family projects, and all of your charity needs."

The price for this yarn is $3.49.
6oz or 380 yards
100% Acrylic
Made in Turkey
Considered a worsted weight size 4 yarn
Recommends a 5mm Crochet Hook, or 5mm Knitting Needles
Machine washable but suggested to dry flat. Low iron but do not bleach.
Let's Compare
So how do you know if this is a good value? Price: Not factoring in any coupons or sales, the cost of the yarn is roughly $0.01 a yard. As you may know Joann's tends to have a standing 20% off coupon which can make this less than a cent a yard.
Feel: I find this yarn to be quite soft. It flows through my fingers well without a scratchy feel. (Think Red Heart Super Saver here.) When compared to Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn, I'd say this is SLIGHTLY less soft but it's very similar.
Color Options:
There are currently 46 color options in the Big Twist Value yarn on Joann's website. Big Twist Value does have dye lots. You'll want to consider this when purchasing this yarn for your projects as different dye lots can vary in color between them.
Final Thoughts
I'm glad that I found this yarn and even better when I ended up paying only $1.50 a skein (that's $0.0039 a yard). I was pleasantly surprised in the softness of it. I was disappointed in the no dry aspect, but considering you can use a low heat iron (which I'm not sure why you would iron acrylic yarn anyway), I would dry on a very low heat in my dryer.
**Side note, I asked this in a crochet group before purchasing the yarn and others do dry on a low heat in their dryer and haven't had any issues.
I am finding that this would a be a great yarn for your projects and it won't break the bank. I love all the color options available and with the softness, I found another yarn I love for my yarn stash.
I'll definitely be watching for this to go on sale and use those coupons to stock up at a great price point. Have you use Big Twist Value yarn? Let me know your thoughts on it.
